The Omer Series consists of 49 individual paintings created on paper with ink and oil. Each painting has been reproduced and assembled in a collection of 49 cards. The paintings are meant to inspire a deeper reflection in the viewer as she or he responds to them on each day of the Omer.
The Omer Series follows the practice of linking each week of the Omer and each day with the attributes of seven of the Sefirot (principles of the Devine in Creation). In this way, for example, the first day of counting is referred to as Hesed Sh’B’ Hesed: compassion in compassion. Combining these attributes and experiencing the visual of the paintings becomes a meditation and an intention for each day of the journey.
From D’vorah:
“The Omer Series, takes the viewer on a journey “out of the narrow place”, from liberation to opening, and then to receiving. When you enter into the practice of counting the Omer you enter with yourself, your ego and your identity, because only your individual identity can carry you from the narrow place of slavery into liberation. What you affirm is that no matter what this journey takes you through in these 49 days you will wind up at Har Sinai, perhaps open and ready to receive.”
